BarcelonaThe head of citizen security for the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) in Figueres has been reported for having physically assaulted the manager of a driving school in Girona. The case came to light this Wednesday morning, when journalist Anna Punsí tipped him off via her X account. The attack by the police officer reportedly occurred on Tuesday afternoon following his daughter's failure in her practical driving test. After a verbal confrontation with the victim, the accused allegedly headbutted her, causing a centimeter and a half of swelling in her eyebrow. In a telephone conversation with ARA, the teacher explained that the officer and her daughter engaged in mock behavior after the attack: "Will you report a police officer?" Rosa Vilà reproached the girl.

"It's not normal for a person in charge of public safety to act this way," lamented the victim, who is also the head of the driving school where the accused police officer's daughter is enrolled. As she explained to this newspaper, the conflict took place on the street around 7 p.m., when she met the girl and her father near Girona station to discuss the young woman's result on the practical exam she had taken that morning. "He wrote me on WhatsApp at noon and said he wanted to talk to me face to face. So I told him we would meet once I got off work," Rosa explains. According to her, the girl disagreed with the "failed" result on the exam, since she believed she hadn't done that badly.

Rosa explains that her father, the head of public safety for the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) in Figueres, also showed up with her. Rosa says that the man maintained a coercive attitude and was nervous from the start. The events took place when Rosa informed the officer that, due to a lack of exam spaces, her daughter would not be able to take the following week's exam. "He told me I was a disgrace, rude, and a bad manager," she claims.

According to Rosa's account, while heckling her, the man got closer and closer, to the point that she decided to push him away. It was at that moment that he allegedly headbutted her. When she rebuked him for the act and threatened to report him, father and daughter challenged him to do so. "He started saying 'report me, report me,' in a mocking tone," she explains. It was then that she learned the attacker's profession and title, and he left the scene.

Investigation opened

Rosa then went to a Primary Care Emergency Center (CUAP) near the scene to have the injury examined before filing a report. According to the medical report—which ARA has had access to—the victim had a 1.5 cm swelling above her right eyebrow. She then went to a Mossos d'Esquadra police station, where she stated that she was welcomed "very well" and apologized on behalf of the police force. An investigation is currently underway to clarify the cause, according to police sources.

They didn't see her as ready for the exam.

Although the victim didn't know the attacker beforehand because the students are adults and the parents remain in the dark, she did know that her daughter's teacher had been the one who was taking her exam. "I was her teacher for three classes and I didn't think she was prepared either, although she asked me to try for the exam," she notes. The exam is scheduled for the following week. "The places are given by the DGT (Directorate General of Traffic) and I can't invent new ones," she said, citing the long waiting lists.
