Three minors arrested for the violent death of a teacher in a supervised flat in Badajoz
Those arrested are between 14 and 17 years old and the investigation indicates that they could have suffocated the woman with a belt
BarcelonaThe National Police have arrested three minors for the violent death this Sunday of a 35-year-old teacher in a supervised flat in the Extremaduran city of Badajoz. The young people, two boys aged 14 and 15 and a girl aged 17, were arrested in Mérida, according to sources from the National Police cited by the Efe agency. All three have Spanish nationality.
The same agency reports that, according to initial investigations, the teacher could have been suffocated with a belt. The investigation is being carried out by the provincial brigade of the Judicial Police of Badajoz, which must report the incident to the competent judicial authority, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office. After the murder, the detainees allegedly took the victim's vehicle and drove towards Mérida, but suffered an accident near the town of Lobón, some 29 kilometres from the capital of Extremadura, according to the Spanish government delegate in Extremadura, José Luis Quintana.
"It could have happened to anyone"
The victim, aged 35, was one of the five professionals who work with the minors on a daily basis in the flat. According to one of her colleagues, in statements to Efe, they worked with "fear". "There had been a very difficult situation for fifteen days, with some thefts and escapes," said one of the assistants in this flat, who did not give her identity out of "fear" and said that "this tragedy could have happened to any" of the workers.
The Minister of Youth and Childhood, Sira Rego, has expressed "consternation" by the events. "I am shocked by the news coming from Badajoz [...]. I want to send our support to the family and loved ones of the deceased in these difficult times," she said in a message published on Telegram. "It is something absolutely terrible," the delegate of the Spanish government also lamented.
The dead teacher was from the town of Castuera, with a population of about 5,500, which woke up on Monday "in disbelief" and "terrible pain" at the event, according to statements made to Efe by the town's mayor, Francisco Martos.
