BarcelonaThe woman who was locked up and raped by her partner in her home A man from the Valencian town of Llíria (in the Campo del Turia region) died for twelve days at the end of July after falling from the balcony of his home. After the ordeal he suffered, investigators suggest that the victim committed suicide and, in principle, rule out homicide. The 57-year-old man is free, being investigated for domestic violence in connection with the kidnapping.

The death comes just a few weeks after the victim managed to escape from the captivity to which her partner had subjected her in the family home for twelve days last July. The man had locked the woman away, not allowing her any contact with the outside world, locking her when she left the apartment, and denying her access to the internet and telephone. During those days, he raped her and recorded the sexual assaults without consent.

When the attacker wasn't looking, the woman managed to contact an ex-partner via WhatsApp and alert him to the situation. When the man went to report what had happened to the Civil Guard, he received a second message from the victim informing him that she had been released. In her statement to the officers, she detailed the attacks she suffered while in captivity and described the attacker as an aggressive person who had an arsenal of illegal firearms.

Released on charges

The man was arrested on July 28th, and in addition to the weapons, 47 grams of cocaine were seized from him, along with items he used to process the drug, as well as several files of sexually explicit videos with both the victim and previous partners. However, once he was brought before a court, the duty court ordered his release against the Prosecutor's request, issuing only a precautionary measure prohibiting him from approaching the woman within 800 meters. The man is charged with unlawful detention, sexual assault within a couple, and illegal possession of weapons.
