BarcelonaThe six young men accused of gang-sexually assaulting a girl in an abandoned industrial warehouse in Rubí (Vallès Occidental) on the night of Sant Esteve in 2022 have accepted sentences ranging from two to ten years in prison. After the six confessed and admitted what happened following an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office, the court issued the verdict orally, and it is now final. The lowest sentences are for the two defendants who did not actually rape the girl, but allowed the others to do so.

Thus, the trial, which was supposed to last four days in the sixth section of the Barcelona Court, was settled in a matter of minutes. Between the six defendants, they have already compensated the young woman with 30,000 euros, which has been taken into account as a mitigating factor in compensation for damages. They all also admitted to an aggravating factor of having taken advantage of the moment and place where they were to attack the girl. The agreement reached this Thursday represents a significant reduction compared to the sentences of between 52 and 60 years and the compensation of 80,000 euros initially requested by the Prosecutor's Office.

At the time of the attack, the defendants were between 19 and 26 years old. Two of them had a previous relationship with the victim, who was 24 years old, and a romantic relationship with one of the defendants. It was he who picked her up at her house that night around 10:00 p.m., under the pretext of meeting to smoke and drink.

On the way to the industrial warehouse, which was far from the town center of Rubí, she made it clear that she was not in the mood to have sex. The girl did not expect to meet the other five defendants at the warehouse. According to the indictment, which everyone admitted, they had previously agreed to meet there with the intention of assaulting the girl, creating "a climate of submission that eventually nullified the victim's ability to react." Despite her repeated insistence that she did not want to have sex, the defendants began touching and assaulting her, sometimes in turns and sometimes simultaneously, and one of them told her "it was a night of celebration and she had to comply."

They are requesting that her entry into prison be suspended.

Four of the six defendants have been in prison since April 13, 2023, and this time will be deducted from their sentences. The other two arrived at trial on provisional release, but one of them spent almost two months in prison in 2023, and that time will also be counted.

Given this, one of the defense attorneys has already asked the court to suspend their client's imprisonment. This could especially benefit those with two-year sentences, and the court will rule on it in the coming weeks.
