The Meteocat activates the alert for rains tomorrow in Barcelona and seven regions

BarcelonaThis Tuesday is expected to be complicated in terms of rain. From early on, a round of showers and storms is expected that could be heavy and leave torrential downpours in several regions. In fact, Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat alert for this Monday night and for the following 24 hours due to the possibility of very intense showers throughout the Catalan coast and pre-coastal area. At the same time, Meteocat has issued a red warning (5 out of 6) for rain in eight regions, including Barcelona during the time slot from 6 am to 12 pm this Tuesday. The territories affected by the alert are Garraf, Alt Penedès, Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Vallès Occidental, Vallès Oriental, Maresme, and La Selva. In addition, an orange level (between 3 and 4 out of 6) for rain has been activated in a large part of the country.

The forecast is for intense rain that could lead to significant water accumulations that may exceed 40 liters per square meter in just half an hour, or 90 and even 150 in three hours, without ruling out local amounts of up to 150 liters per square meter in total.

Despite the Meteocat alert and the fact that the Inuncat alert is active, the Generalitat's forecasts are that for now, the conditions are not met to send an ES-Alert message or to suspend or restrict activities. Despite this forecast, Civil Protection does not rule out that the forecasts may worsen throughout the day and this Tuesday at eight in the morning they will appear to explain the state of the rain front and possible effects. In any case, caution has been requested, and people are asked not to approach flood-prone areas, not to park in streams or flood-prone points, and not to cross spaces with water accumulation.

During this Tuesday morning, downpours are expected, especially in parts of the coast and pre-coast, particularly between Barcelona and Girona. In the afternoon, the main part of the episode will move to the northeast, although scattered showers will continue to fall in other areas, especially along the coast and pre-coast. These precipitations will be fueled by a sea much warmer than it should be at this time of year. Rain will be less likely or testimonial in the western regions.
