BarcelonaThe murder suspect 18 years ago, a shop assistant in a shoe store in Sabadell (Vallès Occidental), whom the police have identified after finding new evidence against him, will remain free on bail while the investigation continues. The man appeared this Wednesday in Sabadell's Court of Instruction Number 5, which is handling the case, and after formally informing him that he is under investigation for the murder, the magistrate released him on bail while the case is being investigated. As requested by the prosecution, the judge confiscated his passport and prohibited him from leaving Spain. While the investigation continues, the man must appear in court every week.

The main suspect in the crime is a plumber who went to the store to carry out a repair on the day of the murder. In 2019, the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested him because they found his DNA in the victim's wallet, but the Prosecutor's Office did not ultimately charge him due to a lack of evidence, and the case was closed. Finally, the case has been reopened.

New investigative techniques have allowed the Catalan police to locate chemical substances on the victim's clothing that match residues found on the suspect's jacket. Specifically, they are traces of metals typical of his profession. This new evidence, discovered by the Mossos d'Esquadra's forensic team, has led to the reopening of the case. The investigation was conducted by the Central Homicide Unit, the Mossos team specializing in investigating long-ago crimes that remain unsolved.
