The judge of the dana raises to 232 the number of deaths in the catastrophe
The last victim is a woman with respiratory failure who ran out of oxygen after the power supply cut caused by the flood
ValenciaThe judge from Catarroja in charge of the criminal case regarding the management of the DANA, Nuria Ruz Tobarra, has raised to 232 the official number of fatalities caused by the Valencia floods of October 29, 2024. The latest recognized victim is a woman residing in the municipality of Guadassuar, in Valencia, who suffered from severe chronic respiratory insufficiency and, following the floods, was left without oxygen when the electricity supply was interrupted.
Firefighters rescued her at noon on October 30, the day after the flash flood, and she was transferred to a residence in the municipality, where she was resuscitated, and subsequently admitted to the Hospital de la Ribera. She ultimately passed away on November 6.
The judicial document presented by the magistrate includes a forensic report explaining that the interruption of the oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilation she required acted "as a triggering factor for the acute respiratory decompensation that led to the hospital admission" of the woman.
The judge concludes that there is a "causal relationship," derived from the mentioned interruption, which leads "inevitably" to including this woman as a victim of the catastrophe "subject of the investigation in these preliminary proceedings."
