BarcelonaFor two months the Mossos d'Esquadra were looking for a serial rapist in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat. He acted at night and usually on weekends. He chose young girls on the street and followed them to the doorway of their house, where he assaulted them. There he strangled them and threatened them verbally before raping them. The police have arrested the alleged perpetrator, a 26-year-old man of Peruvian nationality, to whom they attribute five assaults, two of which involved penetration. Some could not be consummated due to the victims' resistance.

The man committed the rapes between 5 July and 13 September, all within walking distance of each other, between l'Hospitalet and Sants district of Barcelona. That is why the Mossos investigators suspected that the perpetrator lived or worked in this area. A fraudulent bank operation made the police focus on a man who could finally be identified and who had enough evidence to link him to the five sexual assaults in recent months. The agents located him on Monday at a home in l'Hospitalet that they thought could be his home, near the spots where the rapes had taken place.

The Mossos do not rule out linking the detainee with other sexual assaults that haven taken place in previous years. On Thursday, the man was taken before the 2nd examining court in l'Hospitalet, which sent him to prison.
