A volcanic eruption started this Sunday at 15.12 h at Cumbre Vieja, on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, after a week in which some 25,000 earthquakes have accumulated in the area, which started at a depth of 20 kilometres but have been progressively rising to the surface.

The volcanic eruption has started this Sunday afternoon near Las Manchas (La Palma), after the area was hit by thousands of earthquakes in the last week.
The authorities had begun to evacuate people with mobility problems in four municipalities hours before the eruption.
