One death on the AP-7 when a reckless driver crashed into six stationary vehicles
The multiple accident caused seven injuries of varying severity who had to be transferred to Girona hospitals.
BarcelonaOne person died and seven others were injured, two of them seriously, when a reckless driver collided with six vehicles that were stopped in a traffic jam on the AP-7 near Vilablareix, in the Gironès region. This is the first fatal accident this Easter in Catalonia, where the return operation begins at 12:00 this Sunday, during which some 580,000 vehicles are expected to return to the Barcelona area by midnight tomorrow, Easter Monday.
The accident occurred around 7:00 a.m., according to the Catalan Traffic Service. At that time, a Mossos d'Esquadra patrol patrol monitoring traffic on the AP-7 saw a vehicle driving recklessly and, subsequently, for reasons under investigation, this same vehicle collided with six other vehicles that were stopped. The fatality is one of the drivers who were detained, while the person responsible for the accident is one of the seriously injured.
Some of the injured in this accident had to be extracted from their vehicles by the Fire Department, as they had become trapped among the wreckage. According to data from the Medical Emergency System (SEM), the two seriously injured and the two less seriously injured were evacuated to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona, while the three with minor injuries were transferred to the Santa Caterina Hospital in Salt. The accident has forced the closure of the AP-7 motorway near Vilablareix in the direction of Barcelona until midday.
With this fatality, the number of traffic fatalities on intercity roads in Catalonia since the beginning of the year reaches 48.
