No service on the R3 commuter rail line for the second day in a row
Renfe has already set up a road bus service to offer an alternative to passengers
BarcelonaA second consecutive day of problems on the R3 commuter rail line. Passengers attempting to travel this morning on this Renfe line, which crosses central Catalonia, found it closed from the start of service due to an infrastructure problem managed by Adif. The company explained that the cause of the outage was the theft of a communications cable and that technicians are already working to replace the equipment. However, there is still no estimate of how long the disruption might last. Meanwhile, Renfe has already implemented an alternative transportation system using buses to ensure travel for its passengers. The R3 runs vertically through the region, from La Tour de Querol and Puigcerdà to Hospitalet de Llobregat, passing through Vic and Barcelona.
Furthermore, this line has been undergoing a major track-doubling project for months, with partial closures lasting months or even years, to add more tracks to the route, as it is the last single-track line in Catalonia. This means that when there is a breakdown anywhere along the route, trains cannot overtake and therefore the entire service is affected.
