Murdered in front of two children: third femicide in three days in the State

This Wednesday's case in Toledo adds to those in Alicante and Madrid this week.

BarcelonaA third femicide in three days in Spain. A 39-year-old woman was murdered this Wednesday in Torrijos (Toledo) by a 45-year-old man. According to the EFE news agency, the woman was inside her home with two children when the man attacked her with a knife, inflicting several wounds to her abdomen. The man, who was also injured, was taken to the hospital, where the Civil Guard, which is investigating the case as suspected gender-based violence, arrested him. Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska indicated that this crime could be another case of gender-based violence in Spain and explained that neither the victim nor the aggressor were registered in the Viogen System. If confirmed, this would bring the number of victims of gender-based violence in Spain this year to 43. Three of these murders have occurred this week alone. Since 2003, when statistics began being kept, 1,338 women have died at the hands of their partner or ex-partner in Spain. December is proving to be a particularly critical month, with the Toledo case marking the third femicide in three days. On Tuesday night, a 29-year-old woman was murdered in Alicante. Her body bore stab wounds, and in the same apartment was the body of her partner, a 34-year-old man, who had committed suicide. According to EFE, the victim had a minor daughter and was separating from the man who murdered her. There were no prior reports of domestic violence in this case either. The day before, the death of a 45-year-old woman in Torrejón (Madrid), also at the hands of her partner, had come to light. In this case as well, the man committed suicide by jumping from the balcony after stabbing the woman multiple times, including once in the neck. In this case, the woman was indeed within the comprehensive monitoring system for gender-based violence cases after a witness reported and documented the abuse against her in 2021. However, she refused to file a complaint against her husband or give a statement.

The couple had two daughters, aged 13 and 17. During 2025, while awaiting confirmation of the details of the Toledo murder, gender-based violence has already left 23 minors motherless.

Another woman admitted to the ICU in Mallorca

Also on Sunday there was another attempted femicide, this time in Costitx, Mallorca. A 35-year-old woman was stabbed by her ex-partner as she was leaving a party. The man had a restraining order against him and is currently under arrest at the hospital, as he injured himself after attacking his ex-partner.
