More than 80 people, including a baby, have died on a boat that left Gambia 26 days ago towards the Canary Islands with 128 occupants. The boat was rescued this Thursday at dawn while adrift south of the Canary Islands, when only 45 survivors remained on board. Five corpses were also located, which emergency services did not evacuate due to the rough sea conditions.
The Civil Guard has confirmed to the NGO Caminando Fronteras that the vessel had markings on its hull that match those of a boat that left Gambia on September 7 with 128 occupants, including four women and a baby. Therefore, this hundred people had been adrift for almost a month.
As confirmed to Efe by Maritime Rescue, the vessel was located by one of their planes this Wednesday afternoon 120 kilometers from Gran Canaria.
