A homeless man was critically injured after receiving two severe blows to the head in downtown Barcelona.

The Mossos d'Esquadra are searching for the attacker, who allegedly attacked the man with a glass bottle and a stone.

BarcelonaA man was critically injured this Tuesday in downtown Barcelona after being severely assaulted in the head. According to ARA, he had to be taken to the hospital after receiving two severe blows to the head during a confrontation with another person on the San Antonio ring road in the Catalan capital. The incident occurred around 4 p.m. this Tuesday. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) are already inspecting the scene of the attack and have begun a search to find the attacker.

This newspaper has been able to speak with the main witness of the incident, who has already testified before the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police). He stated that the victim is a homeless man who was begging for money on the street. In fact, he claims that he asked the attacker for money and that he refused to give it, leading to an argument. According to the witness, the attacker first broke a glass bottle over his head and then threw a large rock at him, also taking it from a nearby sack of rubble. This is also the police's main hypothesis at this time.

Everything happened in front of some construction work at number 66 Ronda de Sant Antoni. The man was left lying on the ground and, after an initial intervention by the Guardia Urbana, he was treated and transported in critical condition by the deployed Emergency Medical System (SEM) officers.

Mossos d'Esquadra investigators are on the scene searching for the stone and the remains of broken glass. They are also trying to locate cameras that may have recorded the playing of cards. However, while the scaffolding of the construction site bears signs indicating that it is a video surveillance area, the police have found that, in fact, there are no signs.
