Goodbye to tactical urban planning in the Sant Antoni superblock: this is what the new project will look like.
Collboni's proposal reduces the presence of flowerbeds and differentiates vehicle passage areas.
BarcelonaTactical urban planning has its days numbered in the San Antonio superblock, one of the places where it became emblematic. by Ada Colau.
Specifically, the sections of Comte Borrell Street between Paral·lel and Manso Street, and those of Parlament Street between Ronda de Sant Pau and Viladomat, and also between Viladomat and Paral·lel, will be redeveloped. Their nerve center will be the square at the intersection of Parlament Street and Comte Borrell Street, which has become one of the most used areas by residents since its creation. renders They don't show any major differences with green axes such as the one in Consell de Cent or the upper section of Comte Borrell Street in the same Sant Antoni neighborhood. However, the project's details do reveal adjustments to some of the main problems brought to light by the City Council's review of the operation of the Consell de Cent green axis.
One of the most visible changes is that the pedestrian-only area will be differentiated from the area shared with vehicle traffic. Thus, while the sidewalks will be made of granite, the central section of the streets and the plaza will be made of a darker granite. However, everything will be a single platform. Loading and unloading areas will also be differentiated with a different-colored granite to prevent vehicles from parking indiscriminately across the entire street, as is the case in Consell de Cent.
More trees and fewer flowerbeds
Another change concerns the distribution of greenery. In this area, the City Council will reduce the presence of flowerbeds and focus on increasing tree planting. This is because one of the conclusions of the study carried out in the first year of operation of the Consell de Cent is that flowerbeds—which also suffered a lot of damage caused by loading and unloading vehicles—are better maintained in sunny areas such as squares than in streets. Therefore, in the Sant Antoni superblock, the decision will be made to create a second line of trees in the streets and limit flowerbeds to squares.
Once the project has been presented to residents, the municipal government plans to approve the projects and put the works out to tender during the third quarter of this year. The goal is to begin the work, which will cost approximately €11.5 million, during the first months of 2026.
