Five incidents with firearms in four days, one of them with a serious injury in L'Hospitalet
The Mossos are investigating other incidents involving guns linked to robberies and arguments in Tàrrega, Sabadell and Badalona
BarcelonaThe increase in illegal trafficking of firearms, closely linked to drug trafficking, is one of the problems that most worries the Mossos d'Esquadra. Although for the moment it is not leading to an increase in murders in shootings (Last year, the number of victims was almost halved.), there have been a considerable number of incidents involving firearms in a very short period of time: there are five incidents in the last four days. The latest of all was this Monday, just after five in the morning, on the border between Barcelona and L'Hospitalet, leaving a man seriously injured.
According to police sources, an argument between two men ended with one of them opening fire on the other, who was hit in the leg and taken to hospital. The Mossos have already arrested the alleged aggressor: after the incident he fled by car in the direction of Besòs, and crashed into another vehicle on the C-31, near the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. There the Mossos have identified him and arrested him as the alleged perpetrator of the shooting. At the moment the reason for the fight is still unclear.
Fights and a robbery
It was also an argument between two people that sparked the penultimate incident involving firearms recorded in the country. It took place on Sunday at midday, in broad daylight, in Tàrrega. Neighbours on Estació Street called the emergency services because they saw two people arguing on a plot of land and then heard gunshots. The police have found two bullet casings at the scene and are investigating. Everything points to two shots being fired in the air, with no injuries, and now the Mossos are looking for those involved.
The Mossos are also looking for two people who robbed a supermarket on Prudenci Street in Sabadell on Saturday night. They entered with their faces covered and showed a firearm to intimidate the workers and keep all the money. At the moment it is not clear whether the gun was real or fake. According to police sources, the supermarket has not yet filed a complaint and, therefore, the loot they took cannot yet be quantified. In any case, the Catalan police are already investigating.
A few hours earlier, not far from Sabadell, another incident involving firearms was recorded. It was on Besòs street in Terrassa, midnight on Saturday. It was also a fight that ended with gunshots. A witness warned that there was a man lying on the ground. He had been hit by two bullets in the leg, he is hospitalized and his life is not in danger. For the moment, the Mossos have not made any arrests.
Shots fired into the air in Badalona
The first of these shootings took place Friday morning in the Sant Roc neighborhood of BadalonaIn that case, someone fired more than ten shots into the air at a few minutes after seven in the morning. No one was injured and the Mossos are investigating it as a show of force in the middle of a conflict between drug-related clans for control of the territory. For the moment, there are no arrests.
