Two injured and six shacks burned down in a fire at a settlement in the Sant Martí district

The fire, at the intersection of Huelva and Bac de Roda streets, was extinguished at around 9 a.m.

BarcelonaThis morning, a fire broke out in a shantytown in the Sant Martí district of Barcelona, ​​injuring two people. The fire, which has now been extinguished, occurred at the intersection of Huelva and Bac de Roda streets, near the La Sagrera construction site. According to municipal sources, the flames destroyed approximately six shacks, and two people were injured: one with burns and the other with a cut finger. One was taken to Vall d'Hebron Hospital, and the other was treated and released at the scene. Firefighters, who received the call at 7:00 a.m., worked on the blaze with ten crews and declared it extinguished around 9:00 a.m. They are still soaking the burned area.

As ARA has been able to verify, the affected shacks were near the entrance to the settlement, next to fences that mark its perimeter. Inside, there are many more shacks with people living inside.

As published The NewspaperThe flames were accompanied by explosions, although the City Council has not confirmed this. The investigation into the cause of the fire, which has not yet been released, is being handled by the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police).

The PP leader in the City Council, Daniel Sirera, has published a video of the fire on the social network X with the following message: "We have been demanding the eviction of the shantytown settlement for months [...]. How long will this negligence continue? How many more warnings are needed?" he asks.
