A doctor from Santa Caterina Hospital in Salt has been arrested for sexually assaulting a patient.
The center has opened a case against the alleged perpetrator of the events and has suspended his professional activity.
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) arrested a doctor this Monday morning in Blanes for allegedly sexually assaulting a patient at the Santa Caterina Hospital in Salt (Gironès). According to the report, The Punt Avui And ARA has confirmed that police have arrested the 66-year-old man for a crime against sexual freedom. The incident was reported on September 11 before midnight, and officers have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances.
The victim is a vulnerable woman who attended the hospital on Wednesday of last week, according to the Girona-based outlet. The next day, the Mossos d'Esquadra found her wandering alone and disoriented through the streets of Blanes. She then explained to the officers that she had woken up naked in bed in a house she didn't know, and the Catalan police began an investigation to clarify the events.
According to health sources told ARA, the hospital suspended the detainee from its activities when it learned of the complaint and opened an information file that is still ongoing. In addition, the center made itself available to the patient and her family. Police sources explain that the case is under investigation and the man is expected to be brought before the Blanes duty court soon. The man arrested had a criminal record: he was convicted in 2010 for document falsification and obstruction of justice.
Criminal record and attempted murder
The detainee already had several prior criminal records, both as a victim and as a defendant. In 2009, he was the victim of an attempted murder by his wife, Alicia Pagan, who accepted an eight-year sentence after confessing that she had hired two hitmen because, according to her report, the man abused her youngest son. The now detainee survived four gunshot wounds.
In 2010, he was convicted of obstruction of justice for failing to appear at trials while serving as interim coroner, and for a continuing crime of document falsification for falsifying his mother's death certificate several times and presenting it as justification for his absence from trials on the 20th. He was excluded from the interim pool so that he would not work as a coroner again.
