Chaos on the AP-7 due to three accidents involving trucks

BarcelonaNew morning of chaos on the AP-7 due to two accidents involving trucks that have greatly complicated traffic. The accidents occurred near La Pobla de Montornès, in Tarragonès, and in Martorell, in Baix Llobregat, and are already causing kilometer-long queues.

The first incident occurred a few minutes after 6 in the morning and has been blocking this major road artery in La Pobla de Montornès, in the southbound direction, for hours. The incident occurred between a truck and a car. The truck overturned and scattered its cargo, consisting of beverages, onto the road.

Despite the spectacular nature of the accident, the Catalan Traffic Service reported that there was only one minor injury and another injured person who was discharged at the scene. However, the effects of the accident on mobility will last for hours, as the truck occupies a large part of the road and the merchandise it was carrying will also hinder passage until it is completely cleaned up. At present, mandatory detours are being made via exit 220 from El Vendrell towards the N-340, where there are traffic jams from El Vendrell to Creixell in the southbound direction, and AP-2 and A-27 are recommended as possible alternative routes. The traffic jams shown by the Traffic cameras are also starting to be kilometer-long.

Heavy-duty cranes have already arrived at the scene to remove both the car and the truck. Once this larger vehicle is removed, Traffic will be able to open up to two lanes if safety conditions permit. The accident occurred at kilometer point 230.5 of the AP-7 in the southbound direction and currently, nine patrols from the Mossos d’Esquadra, four units from the Firefighters, and one unit from the Emergency Medical System (SEM) are working there.

Paint drums on the highway

Regarding the Martorell accident, it occurred at kilometer 170 of the AP-7 southbound and also involved the collision of two trucks. Traffic jams of up to 11 kilometers had built up from Castellbisbal, but around 12 p.m. traffic had normalized. Civil Protection has put the Transcat plan on alert because one of the vehicles was carrying paint drums that fell onto the road and spilled their contents. Firefighters have deployed four units for this incident, for which they received notification at 8:27 a.m.

And there is still a third accident on this road that adds even more chaos to mobility because it blocks a lane in Maçanet de la Selva towards Girona.

In addition, the Catalan Traffic Service has reported that this morning a 17-year-old girl from Gelida lost her life in a motorcycle accident on the same motorway. For reasons still unknown, the motorcycle overturned and the passengers fell to the ground. At that moment, the girl, who was a passenger, was run over by a truck.

One slightly injured in the collision of a bus with a truck in Maçanet de la Selva

Separately, one person was slightly injured in an accident between a truck and a bus on the AP-7 in Maçanet de la Selva. There were 28 people traveling on the bus, according to the Generalitat Firefighters. The alert was received by 112 at 9:20 AM. The Firefighters have deployed three units.

Another bus is expected to go to the scene of the accident to pick up the passengers and continue the journey. The Emergency Medical System (SEM) has transferred the injured person to the Trueta Hospital in Girona. Due to the accident, traffic jams are reported from Fogars de la Selva, according to the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT).
