Arrested for killing Trini, an abused dog found floating in a cage in the Sils pond

The 36-year-old man has a criminal record and has been reported for other offenses.

BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have arrested a 36-year-old man for abusing a dog to death. On September 28th, the Maçanet de la Selva Local Police received a call from a resident who was walking near Sils Lake. The woman reported a floating cage in the pond, already half-submerged, containing a dead animal. It was a three-year-old American Bully named Trini. The animal showed clear signs of abuse, with several bruises and abrasions. In fact, the veterinary report ruled out natural causes. The dog presented significant trauma consistent with violent abuse. Specifically, she had head and chest injuries that caused hemorrhaging, which led to her death. Furthermore, the police emphasize that the dog's body was found "intentionally locked" inside a carrier with tape, and that it had been thrown into a ditch "with the intention of concealing it." In other words, the main hypothesis is that she died from the blows and then the man tried to dispose of the body.

Several precedents

The case was referred to the Sils Local Police, which has territorial jurisdiction over the investigation, and the Environmental Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) took charge of the investigation. Through the dog's microchip, they located the owner, a man living in Guadalajara. He told them he had temporarily lent the dog to an acquaintance in Maçanet de la Selva. This is the man whom the police have now arrested in Santa Coloma de Farners in connection with these events. According to police sources, the suspect has a criminal record for theft and threats. The Mossos conducted a search of the detainee's home, where they found two other dogs. In fact, they also cited the suspect for not having a municipal license for owning potentially dangerous dogs, for not registering the dogs with the municipality, for not having liability insurance for damages to third parties, and for not properly marking the area where he kept the two dogs. The arrested man will appear in court when summoned.
