BarcelonaA woman died this Wednesday morning in a house fire that burned down a third floor apartment in Terrassa (Vallès Occidental). Firefighters received the alert at 6:19 a.m. and immediately activated five units: three water trucks, a ladder truck, and a coordination and command vehicle. However, upon arrival, they found the fire already fully developed.
The flames had burned down the third floor of the building, which had also been breached through the façade. Once they were able to gain access to the interior of the building, they located the lifeless body of a person. According to firefighter sources, it was an elderly woman. The fire completely burned down one bedroom and the dining room of the apartment. The rest of the apartment was also affected by smoke and the effects of high temperatures.
The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) have taken charge of the investigation and are working to determine the possible causes of the fire.
The affected building consists of a ground floor and five additional floors. During the fire, the remaining residents confined themselves to their homes, and once the firefighters extinguished the blaze, they began ventilating and inspecting the other buildings to ensure the rest of the community was in good condition.
The Emergency Medical System has also activated five units and treated two affected individuals, in mild condition, who did not require transfer to a hospital.
