This is what the British newspaper The Times assures this Wednesday, explaining that the president of the highest body of world football is going through one of the most delicate moments of his mandate after losing support, including that of UEFA.According to this information, in case of agreement, the title match would be played at the future Grand Stadium Hassan II in Casablanca, a facility with a capacity for 115,000 spectators that is currently under construction. This decision would leave the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, until now considered the great Spanish candidate to host the final, and the Camp Nou, which by then will have 105,000 seats at full capacity once the works promoted by Barça since 2023 are completed, out of the running.

It has been the most important event of recent years and the Spanish team of Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsí, Ferran Torres, Pedri and company celebrated the triumph in a final decided in extra time against Argentina (1-0). La roja was the best squad of the 48 that took part in the most extensive edition in dates and teams. FIFA, governed by Gianni Infantino, doubled down on the bet compared to the Qatar World Cup. More countries involved, more matches (104) and, ultimately, more money at stake. Even hydration breaks were normalized in the middle of both halves for advertising reasons. The revenue pie of this World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada amounts to 15 billion dollars, according to data provided by FIFA itself, an amount that represents double (+100%) the figures obtained in the 2022 tournament. The prizes for the 48 participating federations amounted to 655 million, 50% more than in Qatar. Spain, as the winning team, pocketed 50 million, of which a large part went to the players and coaches. 750,000 gross euros per footballer, that is, around 377,000 net in the case of those who play for Barça, where taxation is a bit higher than in other regions of the state such as Madrid, Galicia, Navarra or the Basque Country.

After a World Cup with a host of fires, it seems he has gotten his way. They booed him and criticized him, true. And he has seen how, especially in Europe, politicians and journalists said he should not be the president of the institution that decides the future of world football. But the criticisms go in one ear and out the other, as he has achieved his goal: incredible audiences, selling the most expensive tickets in World Cup history, keeping Donald Trump happy, and, especially, ensuring he will continue to rule. In the elections of March 2027, he will be re-elected.

FIFA presented the Peace Prize to Donald Trump. It's an award created specifically to spite the US president. Trump doesn't have the Nobel Peace Prize—yet—but UEFA is giving him this consolation prize to nibble on. It's just another chapter in Gianni Infantino's subservient role, as he grovels before power in order to, paradoxically, gain even more. Where does this connection between the White House and the FIFA president come from? It sounds like the beginning of a novel that started fifteen years ago, but it's not fiction.
