It would be too bold, police sources state, to say that they were really about to overcome this cordon, but there were moments of tension and the police line had to take a step back. The question that various sources are asking is what would have happened if the two protests had managed to meet. The most repeated answer is that there would have been clashes between protesters.

This Friday, hundreds of anti-fascists demonstrated against the Vox event in Barcelona, where their leader, Santiago Abascal, had not appeared for two years. This has been the third mobilization by the far-left in just seven days. On Thursday the 10th, they took to the streets en masse to boycott the Aliança Catalana event at the Fossar de les Moreres, and the following day they did so again against the ultra-right group Núcleo Nacional, which held a rally with fascist salutes and slogans. And in this debate, it is once again being considered whether the left should form a common front or if it is enough for each party to seek the best strategy separately to contain the rise of Vox and Aliança Catalana. So far, Aliança Catalana has overtaken Junts and the left retains the majority in Catalonia, is the only one who has advocated for a unitary candidacy of the sovereignist left in the State. A proposal that has been rejected by the majority of the formations in this space, including his own party, Esquerra. According to what ARA has been able to learn, however, this Saturday there was a meeting in Cardedeu that brought together Esquerra, Comuns and the CUP, as well as about fifty entities, from Òmnium to unions like UGT and CCOO. The former CUP councilor, however, managed to enter and reportedly tried to let the rest of the crowd in, at which point he was subdued and arrested in front of the town hall. The CUP accuses the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) of using excessive force, including restraint and handcuffs. After 11 p.m., he was released on bail from the Mossos d'Esquadra station in Manresa. Outside, where about twenty friends and family members were waiting for him, Vila didn't mince words when criticizing the police action.."I only pointed out the incongruity of not allowing the town's residents into the plenary session, when inside the room there were a dozen people who weren't from the town, and who were supporters of Aliança Catalana."
