The pilot plan to place agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Catalan schools has not been well received. It has been rejected by educational unions, but also by the majority of the centers where it was planned to be implemented.The trial has also generated internal criticism within the Catalan police regarding the way it has been designed and communicated. Among the few centers that have agreed to be part of the pilot plan, some are located in El Prat de Llobregat. First actions by Jonathan Andic's defense after he was arrested this Tuesday for his alleged connection to the death of his father, Isak Andic, founder of Mango. After the founder of the clothing multinational died hiking in Collbató, the Mossos d'Esquadra recovered his mobile and wiped it. There they found messages with his son that showed tension between them. Now, it has been the wiping of Jonathan Andic's mobile phone from which evidence has also emerged that has ended up leading to his arrest for the alleged murder of his father. For example, that he made the same route several times in the Salnitre caves, in Collbató, days before his father's death.

Despite the differences with the previous case of the CNP, it seems that instead of learning from the mistakes of others to consolidate a different model, what the Government has done is precisely to take the mistake as a model.The educational community is not a problem for the security of Catalonia and its activism in protest constitutes a right. Furthermore, their recent mobilizations have been free of incidents. On the other hand, the mediation units of the Mossos d’Esquadra have (or had, perhaps) a direct line with the unions and can forward demands, collect proposals, and establish measures to make their right to protest compatible with the free movement of the rest of the citizens. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that such an intrusive measure as infiltration in a protest context like the current one is necessary. This represents not only bad practice but also a change in a consolidated model, which denigrates the proximity work and conflict management of a modern force of which some of us were proud.

In the realm of security, there are often perceptions in society that do not quite align with police data. There is a reality: two highly publicized homicides have recently occurred, both in the street and with witnesses who saw them up close. But, with the data in hand, for the police, the increase in crime in Catalonia –or the idea that there is now more than before– is a perception: last year fifty-four homicides were committed, the same as a decade ago. This year nineteen have been committed and, if the pace of cases is maintained like this, the year could end with a similar balance to 2025.

Two agents of the Mossos d’Esquadra infiltrated a teachers' assembly to spy on how they were preparing for future strikes in the sector. That saying that you last less than a lollipop at the door of a school will have to be changed to “you last less than a cop at a teachers' assembly”. They were discovered immediately.

The Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, has said that they will assess the appropriateness and proportionality of having infiltrated Mossos agents into a teachers' assembly. In the case of the two Mossos agents infiltrated in a teachers' assembly, speaking of a greater evil is not a play on words with Trapero's rank, but an objective description of a serious abuse of power committed by the institutions. In a democracy, it is a greater evil for the police, and therefore the government, to act against the right to free assembly: quite the contrary, what the police and the government should do regarding freedom of assembly is to guarantee it. Not to monitor it. Only the meetings of criminals should be monitored and prosecuted, and we do not see police infiltrating the meetings of certain politicians with speculators and directors of vulture funds, for example. On the other hand, there is another democratic requirement that must be demanded of rulers, and that is that public education should not be questioned. Teachers are not and can never be the enemy of rulers, and if they become so, or are seen as such, then the fault lies with the rulers, never with the teachers. The work of teachers and professors is one of the cornerstones of any democratic society, and the teaching collective should be very specially listened to in their demands, respected in their decisions, and remunerated for the decisive work they carry out. Public education cannot be a space of conflict and insecurity, and even less so a space infiltrated by plainclothes police. Neither in teachers' assemblies nor, of course, in classrooms.The lesser evil is what the parties supporting the Government, and also, from the opposition, Junts, seem to have chosen. ERC, Comuns, and CUP agree on demanding the dismissal or resignation of the aforementioned Trapero, and they do not go beyond requests for responsibility (they could do so, because the scandal is, let's repeat, serious). Junts does request that councilors Paneque and Parlón fall, but these are routine requests, which they do not expect to be heeded. The Government, on the other hand, has closed ranks around Trapero and thinks, at first, of getting out of this difficult situation without anyone from the organization falling. Illa is a politician of the old school with an axiom: heads are not cut off except when there is no other remedy. From this perspective, the risk that the situation will fester is less compared to the danger of the Government showing hesitation or weakness. Therefore, once again, the choice is for an evil that is considered lesser (it remains to be seen if it is: putrefaction generates infections).In the limbo of evils, in the middle but no less toxic zone, there is the ultra-conspiratorial swarm, which these days has had more than enough material to fill the networks with all sorts of delusions, threats, and hallucinated prophecies: hantavirus, the murder of a woman (an immigrant, by the way) in Esplugues and, now, the scandal of teacher assemblies infiltrated by police. If these people come to power, even with a small part of their arsenal of lies and alternative realities, it is possible that the upheavals they preach will become self-fulfilling prophecies.

The decision by the General Directorate of Information of the Mossos d'Esquadra to send two plainclothes officers to a teachers' assembly to, according to the force, conduct a risk assessment in the face of a labor dispute "always adhering to current legislation" has generated a political storm that could complicate life for the Government. The fact that the teachers discovered the identity of the officers, who posed as teachers at a school, is a blunder that threatens to widen the current rift between teachers and the ministry, just on the eve of a new round of negotiations that was to begin on Monday.
