The Valencian socialists denounce an increase in protected housing to make it "inaccessible for the majority of Valencians"
The spokesperson in the Courts, María José Salvador, emphasizes that "in less than two years the Council has raised the module by 7% again"
ValenciaThe PSPV-PSOE denounces that the Council of the People's Party and Pérez Llorca has once again increased the price of public protected housing and is setting it at prices that make it increasingly inaccessible for Valencian families, young people, and the middle classes.
The party shows the publication in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana of Friday, August 14, where a new update of the protected housing module is shown, which goes from 2,400 to 2,568 euros per square meter, a 7 percent increase.
"Lack of transparency and sensitivity"
The deputy spokesperson of the Socialist Group in the Valencian Courts, María José Salvador, has criticized that the Consell has chosen precisely a Friday, August 14, the eve of the August 15 holiday and in the middle of the vacation period, to publish a measure that means increasing the maximum price of protected housing again.
“It is one more example of the lack of transparency and sensitivity of this Consell: while thousands of Valencians are worried about not being able to access housing, the PP takes advantage of the vacation period to raise the price of protected housing again,” she pointed out.
Second increase in the legislature
Salvador recalled that this is the second increase in the module since the PP Council introduced the so-called dynamic module in 2024, which was then set at 2,400 euros per square meter. "We already warned that this dynamic module opened the door to new increases and today it is confirmed: in less than two years they have increased it again and we are already at 2,568 euros per square meter," he pointed out.
"The protected housing policy of the Popular Party and Pérez Llorca is at the antipodes of guaranteeing the right to affordable housing. They are achieving that what should serve so that a person who cannot access the free market can have a home is increasingly expensive and, therefore, more inaccessible," denounced the socialist leader.
The deputy spokesperson for the PSPV warned that "the PP is turning protected housing into housing that is increasingly protected from Valencians, unless you are rich, and more accessible to the interests of developers". "It cannot be that the Council's solution to the increase in costs is to permanently transfer the bill to those who need protected housing," he pointed out.
VIVE Plan, "a disaster"
In this regard, Salvador has also criticized the VIVE Plan model, which he considers “a disaster from the point of view of public housing policy”. “The PP uses public land and public resources to favor private developers through formulas like exchange and, at the same time, increases the price of homes that should be intended for those who have the most difficulty accessing the market,” he explained.
“The Generalitat cannot use public funds to guarantee private business and then call affordable housing a home whose price thousands of Valencian families cannot afford,” he stressed.
For these reasons, the PSPV-PSOE demands that Pérez Llorca “reverse this new increase and radically change his housing policy”. “Protected housing must be for protecting people who cannot access free housing, not for guaranteeing developers' profit margins. From the PSPV, we will continue to defend a public housing policy that prioritizes the right of Valencians to have decent and affordable housing and not private interests,” Salvador concluded.
