The Prosecutor's Office confirms two meetings of Leire Díez with Álvaro García Ortiz's right-hand man

MadridThe State Attorney General's Office, led since December by Teresa Peramato, has confirmed to the judge investigating the Leire Díez case that the so-called plumber of the PSOE met twice with the right-hand man of her predecessor, Álvaro García Ortiz, along with lawyer Jacobo Teijelo, who currently defends Santos Cerdán and is also indicted in the National Court. The interlocutor was Diego Villafañe, who was the deputy prosecutor of the Attorney General's technical secretariat and who "informed afterwards" the State Attorney General of the two meetings. The first meeting was on March 6, 2025, and prosecutor Beatriz López Pesquera also participated. Prosecutors explain that Jacobo Teijelo reported on "the existence of a series of facts allegedly committed by third parties that could have criminal relevance." Subsequently, between the end of March and the beginning of April, there was a second meeting, in which Teijelo communicated his "intention to file several complaints with the Attorney General's Office related to those facts".

Leire Díez's messages

Leire Díez's relationship with the Prosecutor's Office came to light following one of the reports from the Guardia Civil's Central Operative Unit (UCO). The document, to which ARA had access, included a message that the then PSOE militant sent to Vicente Fernández, former president of SEPI and also under investigation, on the same day as their first meeting. "Jacobo says I should go to all the Prosecutor's Office meetings because I complement the legal part well. If they now do quickly what they said, things will accelerate," it read. The armed institute also set a date for the second meeting: April 4th, a meeting that Leire Díez presented as "key." "It will be the most important day of my professional life, it could make the president directly adore me," she celebrated.

Likewise, the Guardia Civil believes – without being able to affirm it categorically – that there were two more meetings in May. One would have been on Monday the 12th. "We need to request an appointment with the Prosecutor's Office," Jacobo Teijelo told her. "So we have time to prepare something else," Leire Díez replied. Later, on Monday the 20th, she demanded that he request an "appointment" with his "friends" at the Prosecutor's Office, and he agreed. Previously, the UCO also emphasizes that one of the PSOE "plumber's" agendas includes an annotation regarding a meeting at the Prosecutor's Office on February 19th, which "may coincide" with a message she sent to Antonio García Cabrera the day before, telling him that the Attorney General of the State would receive him.

However, Villarejo's lawyer downplayed Leire Díez's promises. When she testified as a witness before the Guardia Civil, she acknowledged that the conversations were "very unbelievable" and "very fanciful." She denied meeting with Álvaro García Ortiz and explained that she offered to arrange meetings with the Prosecutor's Office, but he never did because she did not give him "credibility." He only had contact with César de Rivas, the prosecutor in the Kitchen case and the Villarejo case, at the end of a hearing: he commented that he believed they would have a meeting – according to what he had discussed with Leire Díez – and he replied that he knew nothing and that he should not get him into "trouble."

Five complaints from Koldo

Finally, the Prosecutor's Office acknowledges that Leire Díez filed a complaint on September 17, 2025, against prosecutor José Grinda. It was sent to the Higher Prosecutor's Office of Madrid, which on December 15 filed it because it did not provide any indication to justify opening an investigation. Likewise, Koldo García filed five writs or complaints between January and June 2025: all were filed by the Technical Secretariat of the State Attorney General's Office, by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, or by the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid. The Guardia Civil's report stated that most of the complaints were directed against the UCO and that one of their objectives was to give them media diffusion. "If the prosecutor general gives it minimal support, I think we can start to reap the rewards," Ismael Oliver told Leire Díez in this context. But all five ended up being embarrassing.
