The PP rewards Mazón by increasing his salary as spokesperson for a commission that never meets.

The former Valencian president will receive a salary bonus of 600 euros per month.

BarcelonaThe People's Party (PP) does not intend to demand Carlos Mazón's resignation as Valencian president after he stepped down following the booing by victims at the state funeral due to his negligent handling of the devastating floods. Nor will he be a backbencher. The PP's spokesperson in the Valencian Parliament, Nando Pastor, has submitted a document to the parliamentary board informing them of several changes within the party group resulting from the president's departure and the appointment of Juanfran Pérez Llorca, the former spokesperson, as the new head of the Valencian Government. The most significant change is that Mazón will become a new member of the Rules Committee, as well as the PP's spokesperson on that committee. In practical terms, this will not represent a major change or a greater workload for the former president, since this committee, quite literally, hardly ever meets. In fact, in the two and a half years of the current legislature, the Rules Committee has not met even once. This committee only addresses changes to the regulations of the Valencian Parliament (Les Corts), which occur very rarely. Right now, in fact, an amendment is underway, but it has been submitted for a single reading, so it will go directly to the plenary session, without going through the committee.

What it will mean for Carlos Mazón is an increase in his income. With this new position, the former head of the Valencian Government will receive an additional €8,879.78 per year, gross, taking into account the extra €634.27 that committee spokespeople receive. Furthermore, the seat allows him to maintain parliamentary immunity and, therefore, avoid the maneuvers of the judge in Catarroja to implicate him in the criminal case for the mismanagement of the torrential rains. The spokesperson for the PSPV (Socialist Party of the Valencian Country), José Muñoz, criticized Mazón's appointment and denounced it as a "curious way of apologizing to the victims of the DANA storm."

His counterpart from Compromís was more succinct, but equally forceful. "Shame!!", he simply wrote in a tweet.
