BarcelonaThe date for the first pre-campaign event for Gabriel Rufián and Irene Montero has been set. The ERC candidate and the head of the Podemos list for the Spanish elections on November 29th will debut at a joint rally next Saturday, October 24th, in Barcelona. The event is the result of a collaboration agreement between their respective parties for the general elections, under which the purple party will not run in Catalonia and will instead support ERC, which includes members of Podemos as independents on its lists, while Rufián will hold campaign events with the former Minister of Equality on Spanish soil.

As announced by Podemos with a poster on social media, the event will take place at 12:00 PM at the Plaça Major in Nou Barris, in the Catalan capital, and will feature the slogan "Home, life, future". "This Saturday, October 24th, we will meet with Rufián in Nou Barris to advocate for politics returning to the basics: Peace, home, work. To put an end to the housing business and lower the cost of living. We look forward to seeing you all there!", wrote Montero on X.

Both Montero and the secretary general of Podemos, Ione Belarra, argued on Saturday that the alliance with ERC is valuable and stressed that the differences with the Broad Front were due to political issues, not positions, and reproached this space for its proximity to the PSOE, reflected in the joint candidacies they will present to the Senate.

For his part, Rufián has also apologized for the "ridicule" of the left ahead of the November 29 elections and has urged his electorate to go vote "even if they are disillusioned or angry." At the same time, he defended the agreement with Podemos in statements to the press and assured that he "did not want to launch a takeover bid against anyone; this was not against anyone." In this sense, he added that he "would have loved to manage to create a real broad front and for Podemos and the Broad Front to have understood each other," but making it clear that his plan "was not to be the same people with a different name" nor to "replace Yolanda Díaz".
