Together remains with the main stronghold of PDECat
Signs a coalition agreement with the heirs of Ara Pacte Local in Mollerussa
BarcelonaThe fragmentation of the convergent space led to Junts and the new PDECat brand, Ara Pacte Local, running separately in the 2023 elections. The division penalized both formations in Mollerussa, where they tied with 4 councilors each, even though the party then led by Marc Solsona came first by a difference of 11 votes. This gave the historic mayor room to lead negotiations to form a government. The executive was initially agreed with the PSC, which had 2 councilors, but after just over a year, the four Junts councilors also decided to join the municipal government, granting him a comfortable absolute majority.
Three years later and with one of the elections approaching, the two parties have signed a definitive truce. Junts and Mollerussa Primer – now without the PDECat, once the party has disappeared – have agreed on a coalition for the municipal elections. The candidate will be Anna Carné, who in this legislature was number two on the list headed by Solsona, who had already announced that it would be his last term after 16 years. They will run under the Junts banner in the capital of Pla d'Urgell, which with 15,000 inhabitants is the most important town where the heir of the PDECat holds the mayorship.
Carné has argued that as an independent municipal group, they have the freedom to make pacts based on the "realities and needs" of each territory. In fact, the almost 200 councilors have been able to choose and have not always decided in the same line. Another member of this party's candidacy, Enric Gràcia, could be the PSC candidate for mayor in Mollerussa, and the mayor of Aitona, Rosa Pujol, has joined the PSC. For now, only Joan Bosch, mayor of Almacelles, has made it clear that the party has enough strength to run while maintaining its banner.
Presentation
In Mollerussa, Carné, the future mayoral candidate for the union of the two parties, has defended the decision to "re-stitch" ties and run with Junts, and has explained that in recent years they have shared "many experiences and works", from which she considers they must build to speak of "the present and prepare the future". For his part, the general secretary of Junts, Jordi Turull, present at the event, congratulated himself on the agreement reached in a municipality as "important" as Mollerussa and highlighted that the way of doing politics of the two formations unites them "infinitely" much more than with other parties. In statements collected by the ACN, he also praised the councilors of Junts, who far from thinking about "personal egos" have prioritized being "useful to the people".
