Jordi Martí does not close the door to speaking with Aliança Catalana
The winner of Junts' primaries in Barcelona says Carles Puigdemont has not yet called him to congratulate him
BarcelonaOne of the issues that Junts will have to address in the face of the next municipal elections is what relationship it wants to have with Aliança Catalana, Sílvia Orriols' party, which polls predict exponential growth at the expense, precisely, of the Junts supporters. This Monday, the day after winning the Barcelona primaries, Jordi Martí has left the door open to talk to the far-right party. "We are not closed to talking to anyone, except for non-democratic forces that are at the antipodes of our party," he stated in an interview with SER Catalunya. Regarding whether Aliança is a democratic force, Martí said yes. "If it runs in the elections and people vote for it. We will see what its political program is," he added.
This Sunday, in his public appearance after being proclaimed winner, Martí already sent a message to Aliança. "There have been parties that have counter-programmed us and have rushed to announce their candidates," he stated. The Junts councilor said this in reference to the event held by Orriols' party on Friday to announce their candidate for Barcelona, Jordi Aragonès, on the very same day that Junts held the debate with the four candidates who ran in the primaries.
Precisely, in another interview on TV3, Jordi Martí has assured that he wants to integrate "all the sensitivities" of the party into the list for the municipal elections of 2027. In this regard, he has assured that he will speak with the three candidates who ran in the primaries – Pilar Calvo, Glòria Freixa, and Jaume Alonso-Cuevillas – to know their "availability," and has stressed that his intention is to form "a very plural team." In this regard, he has assured that he wants the number two to be a woman.
Martí ran in the primaries without the endorsement of Carles Puigdemont's leadership. In fact, the Junts leadership was betting on the party's spokesperson, Josep Rius, to be the candidate, but Martí decided to step forward. The day after winning the vote with 40% of the votes, the councilor explained that he has not yet received a call from former president Carles Puigdemont to congratulate him. "He will call. At the moment, there are so many people calling... We will all find the time," he added in another interview on RTVE. He also said that he is "at the disposal of the leadership" if he needs to go to Waterloo, as on other occasions. He also stated his willingness to speak with Rius to know "what his roadmap" is with Junts per Barcelona.
