Budgets saved: ERC youth join the pact

BarcelonaAfter a four-hour debate, Jovent Republicà, the youth wing of ERC, has decided to endorse Salvador Illa's budgets. The vote of deputy Mar Besses, who represents the organization in Parliament, was essential for the accounts to go through. The national council met this afternoon to decide the direction of their vote and, after a long debate, opted to "preserve the unitary space with Esquerra Republicana" and "maintain the direction of the parliamentary group's vote out of responsibility". However, in a statement, the organization admits that the decision implies "assuming important contradictions" and asks ERC to carry out a "profound review" of the investiture agreement and its compliance.

The party did not put it to a vote, which did not please the critical sector of the party. In fact, the internal current Àgora, led by Joan Tardà, formally requested that a vote be held on whether the party should approve Salvador Illa's budgets or not. The request, however, was not accepted. Among the critical voices within ERC, one of the arguments they made at Monday's meeting was that the party would have given up on the red line of transferring IRPF revenue. They consider that the agreements reached with the PSC are not sufficient to approve budgets for Salvador Illa, and precisely at a time when the Government is facing one of the most serious crises of the legislature, that of the education sector.

Oriol Junqueras and Salvador Illa signed the budget agreement this Tuesday, and this Wednesday the State-Generalitat Bilateral Commission was held to validate the agreements that the Republicans have signed with the Socialists and which depend on the Spanish government. It is about the orbital railway line, which has been the key to the accounts, and which is planned to be built in the next fifteen years at a cost of 5,200 million euros. Wednesday's meeting also gave the green light to the new commercial company that will "speed up" State investments in Catalonia and also the change of majorities so that Catalonia takes control of the direction of the Consortium of the Free Trade Zone.
