Begoña Gómez asks Judge Peinado for permission to travel to the NATO summit and her daughter's graduation

Pedro Sánchez's wife, who Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has provisionally withdrawn her document and prohibited her from leaving the country, has had to make a first request to the magistrate to lift the measure. In a written statement, to which ARA has had access, Gómez asks for permission to accompany Sánchez to the NATO summit to be held from July 7 to 10 in Ankara, Turkey, and also to take advantage of the trip to attend her daughter's graduation, which will be held in London.

"We come to request that the court authorize my client to travel abroad from July 7 to 10, 2026," states the document presented by her defense, which highlights that the Spanish president's wife has been invited to the summit of heads of state and government of the Atlantic Alliance by Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. "The trip will be made with the Spanish delegation on an official plane departing on July 7. The return will be via London to be able to attend her daughter's graduation," the text adds. The return, it is concluded, would be by "commercial flight" on the 10th.

In the request, which asks for the passport to be available until the 11th, the defense highlights that the trip would be made with "the security team" that accompanies the Spanish president on all his trips, which "in itself already guarantees the absolute safety of all of Gómez's movements," it underlines. Awaiting Peinado's reaction, it should be recalled that the judge ordered the passport to be withdrawn with the argument that Sánchez's wife could flee with the complicity, precisely, of her escorts, a theory that outraged the Spanish police and for which the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) has decided to open the process to reprimand the magistrate.
