BarcelonaMichael Jackson's daughter, Paris Jackson, has spoken openly about meeting her mother, Debbie Rowe, when she was 15. The model and singer explained on American presenter Alexandra Cooper's podcast Call her daddy, that for many years she was unaware of her mother's existence. “I remember at 10 years old asking: 'What's my mother's name?' I didn't contact her until I was 15, and since then we've been getting closer,” says Paris Jackson, the middle of Michael Jackson's three children. Michael Jackson.

The musician had two children with Rowe through artificial insemination: Paris Jackson, 28, and her brother Prince, 29. Rowe and Jackson met when she was working as an assistant in a dermatology practice where the artist was being treated for vitiligo, a degenerative skin disease. For years, various media outlets, such as the New York Post, claimed that Rowe had given up custody of her children in exchange for a payment of around 2.8 million euros. Debbie Rowe's lawyer, Eric George, denied this theory in 2009, but the nurse lived for years in a mansion in Palmdale, California. Michael Jackson's youngest son, Bigi Jackson, was gestated through a surrogate mother, a practice illegal in Spain. Bigi Jackson was the baby the musician held up to the balcony of the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin in 2002.

In the interview on the podcast Call her daddy, Paris Jackson describes the feeling of meeting her mother when she was already grown up. “I came downstairs and said, 'Hi, Mom.' We spent the day together and it was all normal,” says Jackson. The model assures that this helped her not to set expectations when meeting people, as she believes that this “ends up generating frustration and disappointment.”

Now the relationship between mother and daughter is good. According to People magazine, the model contacted her mother with the support of her grandmother Katherine Jackson, the pop star's mother. The Jackson matriarch took custody of the singer's children when Michael Jackson died in June 2009. “I like seeing that we are very similar in everything, discovering the music she likes. It's incredible to have her as a friend,” says Paris Jackson, who in 2017 posted a photo with Rowe after she underwent chemotherapy for breast cancer.

During the conversation, Paris Jackson recalls what her childhood was like at Neverland, Michael Jackson's estate. “We couldn't watch television or certain movies, and we were forbidden from going to the amusement park inside the mansion. It was very clear that those attractions were not for his children, but for boys and girls with terminal illnesses who could not afford to go to places like Disneyland,” explains the singer.
