BarcelonaThe North American actor Michael Douglas has had a very close relationship with the island of Mallorca for decades: in 1990 he bought the historic s'Estaca estate together with Diandra Luker, who was his wife at the time. Douglas made the island his usual summer resort and, over time, has come to say that Mallorca is his "second home". Now, the Consell de Mallorca has recognized him with the new distinction Mallorca, Terra d’Honor for having projected to the world the "essence, identity and way of life" of the island.

Along with Douglas, the designer Pablo Erroz, the pharmacist Marta Munar, the businesswoman and founder of Coolook, Mar Aldeguer, and the journalists María Eugenia Yagüe and María Ángeles Alcázar have also received the award, according to the Consell de Mallorca. The list is completed by the French journalist Bernardo Paz, the model Sara Caballero, Rosario Nadal and Norma Duval. All of them have been distinguished for "maintaining a close bond with Mallorca and becoming, from their respective fields, extraordinary ambassadors of the island".
