George R.R. Martin, creator of 'Game of Thrones', reveals he suffers from depression
The author writes again to his personal blog after months of absence and celebrates the Emmy nominations of 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms'
BarcelonaGeorge R.R. Martin, creator of the Game of Thrones universe, has published on his personal blog that he suffers from depression. The author has returned to writing on his website after months of absence to explain his mental health problems. “It's been a very stressful year, so many things have happened that it's been overwhelming,” the writer begins. “Some exciting, but also nightmares. I've lost friends along the way. I've had to battle depression and, perhaps, the worst is yet to come,” the author explains.
“I've turned 77 and I assure you that getting old is not fun. I guess that's life,” Martin writes in a post titled Better late than never. The writer celebrates the nine Emmy nominations received by the HBO Max series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin's novellas, who has repeatedly expressed his satisfaction with the audiovisual adaptation. “It's even been nominated for best drama series,” the author emphasizes. However, Martin does not guarantee attendance at the Emmy gala on September 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. “I hope to be able to go, but it depends on many things,” he declares. In any case, Martin assures on his blog that he is “proud of the entire team” of the series and that he expects to take home a statuette.
This is not the first time Martin has written on his blog about mental health. In a post on February 7 of this year, the writer stated that “many deaths had occurred around him, of friends and artists, which had deeply affected him”.
