Four more women accuse Jared Leto of sexual harassment
A BBC documentary collects new testimony from victims who claim to have suffered abuse when they were minors
BarcelonaFour women have accused the actor and singer Jared Leto of sexual harassment when they were minors. This is reported in the BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood’s dark secret, which will be broadcast this Tuesday evening. The victims report having suffered rapes, calls with explicit language, and threats. The documentary gathers a total of ten testimonies that corroborate the accusations against the Oscar winner for Dallas Buyers Club (2013). The assaults allegedly took place between 2002 and 2016, when the actor was in his thirties and the victims were still adolescents.
In the documentary, a first victim explains that she was assaulted in a motel when she was only 17 years old. Another of the affected women reports that the Hollywood star threatened to sexually assault her when she was 19 years old, after being left alone with him in a hotel room. A third victim claims to have had sexual relations with the actor when she was only 17 years old, and that Leto asked her to address him as "daddy". The last woman states that, when she was only 16 years old, the actor harassed her with phone calls in which Leto proposed sexual relations.
These accusations are added to those of four women who claim to have received "strange" calls from Leto, with some sexual content, when they were younger. Another witness explains that, at 14 years old, the actor invited her to his dressing room and made inappropriate comments about her breasts. The report also includes the statements of two men who worked with Leto's band and his brother, 30 Seconds to Mars. The testimonies confirm the actor's uncomfortable way of interacting with adolescents. Jared Leto has declined to answer questions from the British media.
A total of 120 accusations
According to the BBC, there are over 120 complaints against the actor online regarding his behavior with fans. The victims from the BBC report are added to the nine women who last year accused Leto of inappropriate sexual behavior in an article by theAir Mail. The protagonist of The suicide squad (2016) responded to the accusations by stating that "his communications were not sexual or inappropriate." However, the authors of the BBC report claim to have seen photographs and messages that support the women's testimony.
