Àngels Barceló, after leaving the radio: "I have registered as a resident in Catalonia again"

BarcelonaSince she said goodbye to SER in June, Àngels Barceló has been living a new life away from daily news. A new stage that has allowed her to return to Catalonia after many years living in Madrid. "I had been in Madrid since 1997, I have almost lived more years in Madrid than in Barcelona. I have always said that Madrid was not the city where I wanted to grow old, and I was growing old in Madrid," she explained in an interview on the program Bàsics on Betevé. Although she continues to maintain a bond with her host city, her life is now in Maresme, whose quality of life she defends. "I have registered as a resident in Catalonia again," she assured.

Raised in the neighborhoods of Sant Antoni and Poble Sec, Barceló points out that Barcelona is a much friendlier city than Madrid, although it also has its problems. "I see it as too foreign. Too much for others and too little for us. I find it very hard to find a local bar that isn't part of a big chain. You get the feeling that city centers are all the same. I believe the center has an identity problem," she reflects. The journalist recalls that she never lost the connection with her homeland because while she was working in Madrid she would come almost every weekend, for her daughter and her husband.

Although her life is now mainly in Catalonia, Barceló remarks that she does not want to lose her connection with Madrid because she still has many personal ties there. Nevertheless, she admits that the Spanish capital is "a very hostile city," especially due to the presence of the right and the far-right.

Barceló remarks that right now she does not miss being on the front line of news. "I have ended up very disappointed with politics and politicians, where every time you interview a politician they never answer you anything. I have ended up very poorly because of the tension that exists and because of the trenches, which even if you don't want them to, they end up affecting you personally."

The journalist said goodbye to the radio in June of this year, when she announced by surprise that she was leaving Hoy por hoy, from Cadena SER, a program she had been directing for seven years. "It is the last Hoy por hoy that I do. It's over. Be happy for me, please –she told her colleagues–. Let's turn the page. I am already the left page and now it is time to complete the right page," she said at that moment. Aimar Bretos took over the lead of the morning show.
