With Companys there is no possible error

It is no coincidence that the same party –Aliança Catalana– that congratulates the German AfD with the "Ja hem passat!" (We have passed!) that the Francoists chanted in 1939 when they entered Madrid has committed the "mistake" of voting in favor of the Vox deputy who insulted the memory of President Lluís Companys by labeling him a murderer. Because if you are Catalan and a democrat, you cannot be mistaken about Companys in any way.

It was Companys who was murdered, and not the other way around. The late Joan B. Culla wrote that Companys was not an immaculate icon and that he bore the doubts and contradictions inherent to a war, but that he not only did not order or support the executions perpetrated in the republican rearguard, but he saved as many persecuted people as he could, facilitating their escape. Later, captured and tortured, he was sentenced to death by Franco's regime, a friend of Hitler and Mussolini. Executing the president of Catalonia was the symbolic way of executing the country. Ninety years later, to claim, in parliamentary session, that Companys was a murderer is to take advantage of the freedom of expression of democracy to portray oneself as a fascist.

The problem with the Catalan far-right is that, in order to align itself internationally with the authoritarian and dark trend rising in Europe —such as with the AfD—, it must position itself outside the central tradition of Catalanism, that is, liberal democracy and anti-fascism, and embrace communication techniques that include, among others, coming out en masse to ridicule the enemy.
