Vote Vox for the Catalan state

The leader of the fascist party Aliança Catalana, Sílvia Orriols, encouraged her voters a few days ago, in an interview on Ràdio 4, to vote for Vox in the Spanish elections. When asked if she saw any contradictions between voting for Vox in the Spanish elections and Aliança Catalana in the elections to the Parliament of Catalonia, she replied: “I do not think so. They [the voters], within the framework of the Spanish elections, place their trust in whoever they believe is convenient, and within the framework of the Principality of Catalonia, they place their trust in us because they consider that our project, which entails the restoration of the Catalan state, is the most appropriate or suitable for reaching the welfare state that they long for”. The same day in an interview with La Vanguardia, Santiago Abascal stated that his party is willing to “collaborate with Aliança Catalana to defend Catalan identity” against the Caliphate (he calls it “the Muslim threat”). The courtship is in plain sight, the declaration of principles is clear on both sides.

One thing that the far-right certainly has is its strong corporate vision: that things going well for one of them benefits them all. They know this, they practice it, and they exercise it. From the days of that The Movement (an alliance of far-right movements from across the West) pushed by Steve Bannon or the applause from Aliança Catalana or its environment for far-right leaders like Milei or De la Espriella, apparently at the antipodes of their supposed pro-independence ideology, they do not lose sight of the idea of unity. They have an ambitious goal: to end liberal democracy and establish a new authoritarian, vertical, elitist, and reactionary order, based on fear, force, lies, and denunciation. It is not a minor goal, and they know that to carry it forward they need to join forces. Once power is conquered, they would then start, if it comes to that, to fight seriously among themselves.

In the case of Aliança, the promise of a “Catalan state” is clearly contradictory to an understanding with a party like Vox, which directly champions the legacy of Francoism. However, it serves as an effective carrot for them to be followed (and potentially voted for) by a significant number of bitter, exasperated, and sufficiently blinded independence supporters who believe the slogans and jingoistic, racist sermons that emerge from this party. Under Orriols' skirts, a group of wretches has gathered, some already quite old and bedraggled, with intellectual pretensions, who play the role of adding luster (or at least that's what they think) to this macabre farce. Some would get very angry when they heard talk of far-right independence movements: they said these were fallacies of the Spanish left. These are the same people who now flirt with it, or directly militate in it, or earn their dirty keep from it.

With the Spanish flag or the Catalan or the American one, with the Zionist star or the Christian cross, in whatever disguise it may be, the extreme right is always identical to itself. It is recognized because they recognize each other. And they always treat others as fascists, or Nazis.
