The neighborhood, the street, the attics

Pedro Sánchez, in an interview with Eldiario.es, has asked the “lefts” to his left to “please” reach an agreement, and has also said that it is "time for Parliament to look more like the street and not like those who live in penthouses". He wanted to land a little jab at Isabel Díaz Ayuso and her apartment, bought not with “vulture funds” but perhaps with “vulture ends”, but he did not do it well. The lefts will never reach an agreement, because if they reach an agreement it means they have become centrist. Being on the left is, above all, being more left-wing than the others and living to point out those others who are not as left-wing as you. It is like being pro-independence. You cannot reach an agreement, because if you reach an agreement you are no longer pro-independence, you are a federalist, and you live to point out those who are a little less pro-independencethan you.

To ask for votes, there are specific words that must be avoided. “Street”, as a symbol of an agora where progressive activities take place, is one of them. On the opposite side, of course, there are “offices”, as a symbol of bureaucracy far removed from the “street”. Another word to banish is “neighborhood”. Being from a neighborhood sounds good, as if those from Móstoles or Sant Gervasi were not from a neighborhood, too. And as a counterpoint we have “those who live in penthouses”. Pedro Sánchez has not thought about the thousands and thousands of “progressives” worried about the “streets”, who want to help “the neighborhood people” and who are fighting for “the social emergency”, who live in penthouses. No, you cannot personalize it so much. It is better to say “the rich”. Here, one, no matter how rich they may be, never considers themselves alluded to.
