Ukrainian soldiers in Avdiivka

We argued, before the brand-new change in the world order, that nuclear weapons precisely rendered thrift rearmament, that is, junk (tanks, pistols, and machine guns), completely useless. That the army had little point if a button solved everything and, in practice, fostered peace, out of fear of total destruction.

We had left behind wars with obedient soldiers, like kamikazes. The attacks on the Twin Towers made clear—on TV, of course—that there were still beings capable of self-immolation. This changed the rules. And it did. In reality, we needed to do more prevention than defense. This idea of blind obedience had made the left less inclined to spend military money, while the right was. In the Spanish Civil War, the left decided to wage war as if it were "working on projects." And so it was.

But today, precisely, the rearmament of the bazaar, that is, the scrap metal (tanks, pistols, and machine guns) is once again on the lips of our rulers. Why? we all ask ourselves. What good should it do?

But there's an advertisement, an advertisement with legs, that precisely makes us all think, without even paying attention, that yes, the more scrap the better. It's the war in Ukraine. Still thinking as we used to say: "Putin will win the war in a weekend." But that wasn't the case. The war, "artisanal," if you'll allow me the terrible cynical word, has demonstrated, demonstrates every day, how well it will be armed. You have to buy scrap metal, good scrap metal, because crazy rulers usually attack their neighbors, who are always the most hated. And a nuclear button doesn't work at all if you shoot right next to it. So buy, buy, buy, they'll snatch them out of my hands!
