Trial of the five defendants in the Castelldefels Manada

We read in the ARA newspaper that members of the so-called Castelldefels "lopada" (I translate this as "pack") have reached plea agreements with the Prosecutor's Office. It says that "the mitigating circumstance of late confession has been taken into account, because the agreement implies that they admit to the attacks, as well as that they have already begun to deposit compensation to the victims and have shown remorse." This last part, in fact, was a requirement of the court, so, "after an initial round of speaking in which the five simply responded with monosyllables that they accepted the sentence," they were required to "demonstrate" this remorse, because, as it happens, they spontaneously didn't show it. Then one of them, who appears to be the group's mastermind, apologized "for any inconvenience" they "may have caused."

To me, all this talk of morality in trials, in the amoral year 2025, seems unnecessary. "A witness does not can "lie," they tell you. But who among us wouldn't lie for various reasons? None of us is too devout to think that "if you swear falsely" on the Bible you'll go to hell. Nowadays it would be better to swear on a polygraph. They have been required to repent. Fantastic. Well, they've already said it. Of course, but what's the point of the theatrics? How could anyone believe them? Should they fake tears? discomfort It's worse than nothing, much more humiliating, much more disgusting. And I'd say this supposed "they could have" is shameful. Discomfort. "I have discomfort in my knee," you say sometimes. But you don't say that they caused you discomfort when you were raped, I think, as if the dentist had made you wait too long.
