What a privilege to sail in front of Barcelona!

The Premium Club enjoys the activity "Windy Thursday," organized by the Olympic Port of Barcelona.

Until the Barcelona Olympic Games, the city lived with its back to the sea. This changed in 1992. One of the legacies of the transformation that Barcelona underwent for the world's premier sporting event is the Olympic Port. In this space, sailing is the protagonist. A few members of the ARA Premium Club have been able to sail on very well-equipped sailboats, piloted by expert skippers, on a sunny afternoon with good temperatures and strong wind: yes, the blue sea had a few whitecaps. This is the free activity "Windy Thursday," organized by the Olympic Port. Upon leaving this port and heading out to sea, the participants experienced how the wind is an excellent engine for a sailboat. All the sailboats not only reached a notable speed but also heeled immediately. The Premium Club members were not passive participants, but quite the opposite. They even learned to tack, which is one of the most complicated "operations" on any sailboat.

The opinion in verse of subscriber Marta Padrós

With ARA Premium and a good wind

we have enjoyed an excellent experience.

A very diligent skipper

explained four rules to us very briefly.

Going by boat is not an easy job

you need to know the wind and be very agile.

When we hoisted the sails leaving the port

the first gust of wind

almost capsized the boat.

How we laughed when we all went to leeward as we heeled!

We practiced with the rudder, tightened the sheets, handled the genoa and mainsail.

Yes, we have learned to sail better.

We returned to port enjoying the sunset

and the views of Barcelona, what more could you want!

The Port Olímpic's commitment to bringing nautical activities closer to the public

“Dijous de Vent” (Windy Thursday) is an introductory regatta open to the public that aims to bring sailing to new audiences. The activity is aimed at both people without previous sailing experience and professionals or sailing enthusiasts, and offers the possibility of joining the crew of one of the boats from the Olympic Port's nautical companies for an afternoon. Once back at the port, participants also enjoy a refreshment at the Casa Carmen restaurant in the Balcó Gastronòmic.

With this proposal, which "rests" with the arrival of the cold weather, the Olympic Port –a space managed by BSM on behalf of the Barcelona City Council– reaffirms its commitment to bringing sailing closer to the people of Barcelona and generating community through shared experiences at sea.
