BarcelonaIt was the most watched series of 2024 on Filmin and this Tuesday it returns with a new season. Shetland, set on the remote Scottish islands of the same name, fascinated the platform's viewers with the story of Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall), a widowed police detective who was in charge of investigating criminal cases while trying to raise his stepdaughter and overcome the grief over the death of his wife. Endorsed by the BBC seal - it is one of the great classics of British public television - the series has undergone a transformation in the last two instalments that have already been seen in England: Jimmy Perez no longer appears (as viewers who reached the end of the last season released on Filmin know) and now the lead role falls to

The reins of the Shetland police station are now held by Detective Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen), who is paired with Alison Tosh McIntosh (Alison O'Donnell), who has been Perez's faithful companion since the beginning of the series. Calder grew up on the islands, but has not lived there for years because she has made a career for the London police. At the beginning of the season, a London police informant is killed by a hitman. A young woman, who is robbing the informant's flat, witnesses the crime and decides to flee to the Shetlands. Calder is sent to her native islands to try to locate the girl with the help of Tosh, who is immersed in the investigation of ritualized sheep slaughter. The arrival on the islands also has a personal component for Calder, who must confront her family past.

Shetland It is an adaptation of the series of crime novels by Ann Cleeves and is one of the great British detective classics, along with other titles such as Grantchester and Endeavour. After nearly ten years of playing Jimmy Perez, Henshall decided to leave the series because he felt that his character's story had reached "a natural end." "It was time to find a solution to Perez's private life. I never wanted to spoil things that were unique to him and our show, so it seemed like the right time to close his story in a way that was satisfying to everyone. I realize that we're not changing the world in any way, but as far as crime shows go, I'm not going to be able to change the world." Shetland "He works the genre very well," Henshall explained to the BBC.
