BarcelonaThis Tuesday, the Roda de Ter City Council will experience a change of position within a municipal group. Joan Moreno, the head of the Rodem list, an independent party born from a split from Junts, will hand over his council seat to Marina Quintana, the second-placed candidate on the list. This is not just another important change. Quintana has been the new president of the Catalan Alliance in Osona since November. And in Tírvia, in Pallars Sobirà, the only Junts councilor, Ramon Porta, was expelled from Sílvia Orriols's party in the race. for control of the direction in the Pyrenean regions, has just joined the National Front of Catalonia (FNC). The far-right thus adds two new representatives to the local councils.

The controversial change in Roda de Ter was already agreed upon, according to the candidate of this independent group. "We agreed to split the mandate two years each because I have headed the list in two elections and now I want to dedicate myself to Arnau," he says, referring to his son, who has an 80% disability. He thus denies that it is due to a strategy to pave the way for the far-right party. "It is not being done to strengthen the Catalan Alliance," he makes clear. In fact, Moreno asserts that the group, being in opposition with the pact between ERC, the PSC, and another independent group, is inactive and does not even meet. "People are unmotivated and would have only nominated Marina," he emphasizes.

Although Moreno says Quintana will limit himself to "municipal politics until the next elections," the leader of the Catalan Alliance in Osona has already announced that she will address issues central to the xenophobic party, such as crime, insecurity, and occupations. She did so when her replacement was made official in a message on social media with the hashtag #SalvemCatalunya, which is the motto of the Catalan Alliance. Moreno says that jobs "are a serious problem" and that it is necessary to "change the laws," but rejects the idea that Catalonia is "a country extremely rampant with crime" and that she has not emphasized the crime in Roda.

Quintana has also announced that she will work within the opposition to prevent the possible opening of an Islamic cultural center in Roda de Ter. "We haven't talked about it because the group doesn't meet, and I'm staying out of it," the current councilor emphasized when analyzing his replacement's proposal. Quintana maintains that he has shared his concerns with the people on the list who remain active, but emphasizes that "Rodem is a group of voters that ceases to exist as an active political entity once the elections are held."

The Catalan Alliance has hailed Quintana's entry into the Roda de Ter council as another success for its party, even though she joined as a representative of an independent party. The new councilor sees no problem. "When you consider joining an electoral list, you know you're making a four-year commitment," she emphasizes.

In fact, this very Tuesday, Quintana spoke at her party's weekly press conference, accompanied by MP Rosa Maria Soberana.

The other councilor who joins the far-right pro-independence movement is Ramon Porta, whom Junts has not asked for his seat or disassociated himself from despite first becoming a member of the Catalan Alliance and then the National Front of Catalonia. "Junts has benefited more than I have, and they haven't said anything to me," he said in a conversation with ARA, referring to the votes that Carles Puigdemont's party garnered for supra-municipal institutions. Junts sources explain that Porta, who ran through the open list system, is not a Junts member nor does he hold any organizational position, and that they cannot expel him, and that the councilor's seat is his.

The Front has also boasted about Porta's entry into its party. In a statement, it emphasized that it strengthens territorially "the only nationalist independence proposal that does not aspire to a Spanish vote and that is contrary to the policies of the Catalan National Front." woke and in the 2030 agenda." The party led by Jordi Casacuberta announced in the same text that it intends to have Porta run for its party in the upcoming municipal elections.

The only Catalan Alliance councillor elected outside Ripoll is now in office.

The results of the recent municipal elections placed the Catalan Alliance as the leading force in Ripoll, with six councilors. The LGBTI community was considered a "cancer" and Silvia Orriols's party disassociated itself from it and the group.

The other remaining councilor, Roger Saborit from Manlleu, is also packing his bags and leaving his position as councilor, as he himself confirmed to ARA. He added that the reason for his stepping back was his mother's illness. "If you want to do things halfway, they should appoint someone," he added.
