At one pace or another depending on the brand and the country, the truth is that the entire automotive sector is becoming electrified. The latest manufacturer to announce that it is launching new electric vehicles has been Renault, which has presented three new members of its commercial vehicle range. And despite being three completely new models, their names are old acquaintances. On the one hand, we have the Trafic, which represents the fourth generation of this model. The other two are the Estafette and Goelette, two vans from the fifties that are returning to the market with a 100% electric approach.

Renault has announced that the three models are built on the SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) architecture, developed by Ampere and which uses a platform skateboard which optimises flexibility, ergonomics and connectivity. This combination, according to the French manufacturer, will allow for almost infinite customisation, reduced operating costs and high safety standards. What remains to be seen is how this will benefit (or not) the final price, which has not yet been announced.

Models designed for every need

The fourth generation of the Renault Trafic is 100% electric.

Although the three new vehicles use the same architecture, their approach is different. First of all, the well-known Renault Trafic, a model of which more than 2.5 million units have been sold since 1980, is completely reinvented with a modern look and a rather aerodynamic design.

In fact, the general aesthetics of this new vehicle follows the new Renault aesthetic codes, which we have seen in models such as the Renault 4 or Renault 5, with fluid and well-structured lines. Its front end stands out for its backlit strip and illuminated logo, while the waistline provides a marked sense of dynamism, something unusual in this segment. The rear end is dominated by a 3D lighting system and prominent black plastic protections.

The Renault Goelette will be offered in chassis cab, box and tipper versions.

The Renault Goelette E-Tech is inspired by the historic model from the 1950s and 1960s and is defined, according to the brand, as a highly configurable vehicle. It will be offered in chassis cab, closed box and tipper versions, and also has a fully customizable rear that will allow it to incorporate different structures for professional use.

Finally, the new Renault Estafette E-Tech, which in this case is inspired by the model from the 1960s to 1980s, returns with an eminently urban approach. And not only because of its compact size for being a van (5.27 meters long and 1.92 meters wide), but also because of the very concept of the model. In the images you can easily see: large windshield, side door without roots to optimize loading and unloading and sliding door at the rear that allows great versatility when delivering packages in urban environments.

The Renault Estafette E-Tech will be geared more towards urban use.

Important details such as range, engines and prices are still to be known, but for now Renault has announced that the three models will be manufactured at the Sandouville plant (France) and will hit the market in 2026.
