One dead and four injured in a knife attack in the street in Austria
Police arrest the attacker but do not yet know the cause of the attack
BarcelonaA 14-year-old boy died and four other people were injured on Saturday afternoon after a man stabbed them in the street in the Austrian town of Villach, about 350 kilometres south of Vienna. The attacker is a 23-year-old man of Syrian nationality, who had a residence permit and has been arrested. However, he had no criminal record and the security forces do not yet know the motives for the attack. The police are investigating whether the attacker acted alone or had an accomplice, as well as whether he had any relationship with the victims.
The attack took place at four in the afternoon in the street in the centre of the town of Villach. The youngest victim is a 14-year-old teenager, and the oldest was thirty-two. A driver who witnessed the events ran over the attacker immediately after the attack, which made it easier for the police to arrest him.
