Niacinamide, the trendiest cosmetic ingredient
Despite its recent success, it is a cosmetic item with a long trajectory within the sector
BarcelonaNiacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that in recent years has not stopped gaining ground in all kinds of cosmetic formulas. Its triumph is explained because it offers several benefits to the skin. According to various scientific studies, it helps to reduce acne; it reduces dark spots and unifies skin tone; it strengthens the skin barrier, as it helps the skin retain more moisture; it reduces oil production, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. For all these reasons, it is easy to find it in creams, serums, and toners of all price ranges. Furthermore, even though its success is recent, it is a product with a long history, as the industry has been using it for decades. Below, some cosmetics that include it in their composition.
Eye contour
Sepai's Local Recovery is an eye contour that incorporates vitamin B3 in a formula created to act on the pigmentation and hydration of the gaze. The main effects are the depigmenting action –as niacinamide inhibits the transfer of melanin to the skin, which visibly reduces the hyperpigmentation characteristic of brown under-eye circles– and the strengthening of the skin barrier and hydration –which occurs because this active ingredient stimulates the production of essential lipids, thus strengthening the skin barrier and reducing water loss, a key factor in the dull and sunken appearance of under-eye circles.
Facial hydration
The North American brand Paula's Choice, known for being science-based and avoiding the most trivial marketing, also adds niacinamide to its transparent gel moisturizer. Designed for oilier skin, this formula, called Invisible Finish, provides the necessary hydration to achieve fresh, smooth, and balanced skin. Its lightweight formula contains scientifically proven effective antioxidants and niacinamide, which makes hydration last longer on the skin and amplifies the effects of hydration. The gel format is ideal for warmer periods.
Tonic
Farma Dorsch adds niacinamide to its purifying tonic. The brand, founded by the pioneer of dermocosmetics in Spain Ana Dorsch, has formulated this all-terrain tonic with 99% natural ingredients and without alcohol, PEGs, sulfates, or perfume. The ingredients included in the formula are especially respectful of the skin, even if it is sensitive skin. It is a good option for skin after winter, when it sometimes has a duller appearance. The tonic contains niacinamide, for its sebum-regulating and calming properties and because it helps to improve the appearance of acne-prone skin, reduces redness, and leaves a more uniform and balanced tone. It also includes aloe vera, apple cider vinegar – which is rich in natural alpha-hydroxy acids and helps to minimize pores –, raspberry vinegar – because it is a source of vitamin C –, and chamomile – essential for sensitive skin.
