BarcelonaThe 2025 income tax return campaign includes several new features worth taking into account, such as the obligation to file a tax return even if you're unemployed or the option to pay with Bizum if your return is positive. The tax return due this spring covers last year's income and expenses.

Income tax return calendar

This year's campaign will begin on April 2nd (the date from which online filing is possible) and end on June 30th. The deadline to access tax information begins on March 19th, a necessary procedure to verify whether the information the Tax Agency has on us is correct.

Taxpayers who wish to file their tax return by phone will have to wait until May 6, and those who wish to file their tax return in person at the Tax Agency offices will not be able to do so until June 2. June 30 is the deadline to file their tax return, but those who wish to pay by bank transfer will have to do so by June 25.

The unemployed, forced to declare

People who received unemployment benefits last year are required to file their income tax return, regardless of the amount received. This is one of the most important new developments of the year.

Threshold for filing with more than one payer

Until now, if a worker had more than one payer, they were required to file a tax return if the amount received from the second or subsequent payer exceeded €1,500. From now on, the amount increases to €2,500. This means that if the second or subsequent payer has paid more than €2,500, the recipient is required to file a tax return. If the amount is lower, they may not file it, as long as the total income received does not exceed €22,000 per year.

Card payments

Since that year, the Treasury has monitored all credit card transactions exceeding €25,000 annually. Purchases in physical stores, online purchases, and international payments are automatically reported to the Tax Agency, as card issuers are required to report these transactions.

Tax deductions

This campaign will allow you to deduct investments in renewable energy: the purchase of electric vehicles and charging stations will benefit from a 15% tax deduction, and investments in energy-efficient homes will benefit from up to 60%.

Incentives for owners

Landlords who rent out a home can deduct 100% of their rental income if the tenant is under 35 years old.

Real estate income

Taxpayers who live in a property whose cadastral value has been revised after 2012 will be affected by a new percentage in the imputation of real estate income, which will rise to 1.1%.

Pay with Bizum

Is your tax return due? This year, for the first time, you can pay your tax debt using Bizum. This new payment method joins the existing ones: direct debit, bank transfer, and debit or credit cards.
