BarcelonaThe 2025 income tax campaign has several new features that are worth taking into account, such as the obligation to file a tax return even if we are unemployed or the possibility of paying with Bizum if we get a positive result. The tax return to be filed this spring corresponds to last year's income and expenses.
Income tax return calendar
This year's campaign will start on April 2 (the date from which online filing can be done) and will end on June 30. March 19 is the deadline to access tax data, a necessary procedure to check whether the data that the Tax Agency has on us is correct.
Taxpayers who want to file their tax return by phone will have to wait until May 6, and those who want to do so in person at the Tax Agency offices will not be able to do so until June 2. June 30 is the deadline to file the return, but people who want to pay by bank transfer will have to do so by June 25.
The unemployed are forced to declare
People who received unemployment benefits last year are obliged to file an income tax return, regardless of the amount received. This is one of the most important changes of the year.
Threshold for filing with more than one payer
Until now, if a worker had more than one payer, he or she was obliged to file a tax return when the amount received from the second or subsequent payer exceeded 1,500 euros. From now on, the amount is raised to 2,500 euros. This means that if the second or subsequent payer has paid more than 2,500 euros, the person receiving the payments is obliged to file a tax return. If the amount is lower, he or she may not file it, provided that the total income from payments received does not exceed 22,000 euros per year.
Card payments
Since that year, the Treasury has been monitoring all credit card transactions exceeding 25,000 euros per year. Purchases in physical stores, online, or international payments are automatically notified to the Tax Agency, since card issuing entities are obliged to notify these transactions.
Tax deductions
In this campaign, investments in renewable energy can be deducted: the purchase of electric vehicles and charging points benefits from a 15% tax deduction, and investments made in energy improvements to the home benefit from up to 60%.
Incentives for owners
Landlords who rent out a home can deduct 100% of the rental income if the tenant is under 35 years old.
Real estate income
Taxpayers who live in a property whose cadastral value has been revised after 2012 will be affected by a new percentage in the imputation of property income, which rises to 1.1%.
Pay with Bizum
Have you had to pay your tax return? This year, for the first time, you will be able to settle your debt with the Treasury in Bizum. The new payment method is added to the existing ones: direct debit, bank transfer and debit or credit cards.
