Search giant Google has announced a definitive agreement to acquire cloud security platform Wiz, its largest-ever acquisition: $32 billion (€29.354 billion), all cash, subject to closing adjustments.

Wiz is a start-up New York-based cloud security company. Founded in January 2020 by Assaf Rappaport, Yinon Costica, Roy Reznik, and Ami Luttwak, Wiz was already eyeing it up by Google. It even tried to buy Wiz a year ago, for around $23 billion at the time, but the deal fell through.

Now, with the acquisition complete, Wiz will join Google Cloud with the goal of driving increased cloud security and multi-cloud capabilities.multicloud), two important and growing trends in the AI era. "Both cybersecurity and cloud computing are rapidly growing industries with a wide range of solutions," the company noted in a statement.

The largest acquisition in history

Until now, Google's largest acquisition was Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion (€11.466 billion) in 2012, ahead of its $5.4 billion (€4.953 billion) acquisition of cybersecurity firm Mandiant in 2022. At nearly €30 billion for Wiz, this deal ranks as Google's number one acquisition.

The giant also emphasized that Wiz products will continue to run and be available on all major clouds, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud, and will be offered to customers through a variety of partner security solutions.

"Both Wiz and Google Cloud are built on the belief that cloud security should be simpler, more accessible, smarter, and more democratized, so more organizations can securely adopt and use the cloud and AI," said Wiz co-founder and CEO Assaf Rapp.
